LIVESTOCK X NIKE

I was approached by Livestock & Nike to create a large format artwork that would be installed at a Toronto Livestock locations for Nike Air Max Day.

The direction for the project was open ended & I was given artistic freedom to interpret “Exaggerated Air”. Nike helped direct the colour scheme & we worked together to incorporate visual cues from the Sean Wortherspoon shoe that would be released in the same timeframe.

Here’s my artist statement displayed alongside the work:

“I often try to subvert loaded visual imagery to tell a story and Nike gives you so much material as an artist in this sphere. The “Have A Nike Day” Smiley from the 70s is genius so I was excited to see it having a comeback this year. I took an already great visual pun and connected it to the theme of “Exaggerated Air” by placing it on a hot air balloon – with a classic Nike shoebox as the basket. My illustration has a bold simple message that looks clean and contemporary from a distance but if you get a little closer there’s vintage texture and depth. To me that sums up Nike Air Max – always pushing forward into the future while remaining a classic.”

The final artworks were Giclée printed at 36″ x 54″ & framed. There was one additional set printed for the Nike archive.
